Aurélien Catin

Aurélien Catin is an author and economic rights activist.
As a member of the popular education association Réseau Salariat, he is exploring ways to establish a political right to a wage, particularly in the field of the visual arts. He is part of the collective La Buse, which brings together visual artists, curators, and researchers with the aim of securing genuine recognition for art workers.
In 2020, he published a book titled Notre condition. Essai sur le salaire au travail artistique with Riot Éditions, a small non-profit publisher where he directs the “Travailler le travail” series. Since the book’s release, he has contributed to various publications (Le Monde diplomatique, Théâtre/Public, etc.) and continues to explore the theme of labor through the lens of wages and Social Security.
He also studies the economics of culture, the history of copyright, and the movements shaking up the art worlds in Europe.
Aurélien Catin is helping to set up a hybrid working group centered on the idea of a public-interest organization dedicated to the production and dissemination of emerging artists, with the aim of collectively devising a different way to support young artists. The findings of this work were presented during the third edition of Radio Plouf! in March 2023.
