Dancer’s Health

The Collectif FAIR-E / CCN in Rennes and Brittany pays special attention to dancers’ health through an initiative launched by Linda Hayford, co-director. Through roundtables, workshops, discussions, and studies, the collective contributes to a dialogue aimed at:

  • raising awareness about physical preparation, maintenance, and recovery—particularly when working across different styles (hip hop, popping, breakdancing…), particularly with the goal of sustaining a long-term career,
  • to reflect on the mental, psychological, and physical health challenges faced by dancers during pregnancy and parenthood within the choreographic community,
  • to integrate the Shifting Pop movement language developed by the choreographer—which aims for a deep body awareness—with other disciplines that engage the body: sports, film, theater…

History and label

Fair-e

The National Choreographic Center of Rennes and Brittany (C.C.N.R.B.) is part of the network of 19 national choreographic centers that form the foundation of choreographic creation, production, and presentation in France.

In Rennes, the organization has existed since 1978. Before being designated a National Choreographic Center in 1982, the institution operated under the name TCRB (Choreographic Theater of Rennes and Brittany), directed by Gigi Caciuleanu until 1993, then by Catherine Diverrès and Bernardo Montet until 1996. Catherine Diverrès continued to lead it alone until 2008. Boris Charmatz served as its director from January 2009 to December 2018, renaming it the Musée de la danse. Since January 2019, the FAIR-E collective—then composed of Bouzid Ait Atmane, Iffra Dia, Johanna Faye, Céline Gallet, Linda Hayford, Saïdo Lehlouh, Marion Poupinet, and Ousmane Sy (who passed away in December 2020)—has led this Choreographic Center, which has reverted to the name CCN de Rennes et de Bretagne.
Since 2023, artist Johanna Faye has been pursuing her work independently.

Les CCN en France

Fair-e

In 1984, the Ministry of Culture, in consultation with local and regional authorities, initiated the creation of national choreographic centers, which have made it possible to establish choreographers in various regions and to develop hubs of creativity around them.
Representing a wide variety of dance styles and forms, the 19 National Choreographic Centers (CCNs) support the creative work of the artist(s) who direct them and promote their works. They also support independent artists and companies through studio residencies or artist collectives.
Finally, the CCNs develop policies regarding the transmission of choreographic culture and arts and cultural education, and serve as resource centers for dance in their respective regions.

More information on the CCNs is available on the website of the Association of National Choreographic Centers.
