Hip hop, rap, breakdancing, smurfing, b-boying, popping… How can we name the modes of expression of a culture that has been overused? In this project, the focus is on dance itself, with its vocabulary and grammar, as they are today and as they were in the past. Its origins and where it is heading, the changes and developments of this cultural revolution. The aim is to understand why ‘I dance’; this phenomenon has been firmly rooted in our society for several decades, yet there is a glaring lack of information about this movement amongst the younger generations. Initially, it was seen as a fad, a passing trend lasting a few seasons, but passion prevailed over reason. A dance-based lecture, a performance, a demonstration… It is a stone thrown into the pond, an update, a passing on of a memory before it falls into oblivion.
