Borrowed from the German Hinterland, meaning “hinterland,” composed of hinter (“behind”) and Land (“land, country”). Hinterland is the hinterland. It is also a saturated zone, a lost world, behind a port or a jungle, rendered desolate and artificial. It is the area where goods are gathered. Our collective is made up of dancers, musicians, filmmakers, visual artists, and philosophers who, as if after a shipwreck, have gathered their tools in this “backworld” that is the studio. The backdrop of our archives forms our images of the future. We invite anyone who carries within them the desire to secretly record a few gestures there. It is from the studio that Hinterland prepares to unveil its projects, which may take the form of shows, performances, exhibitions, magazines, sessions, concerts, banquets, expeditions, or simply a moment of life as it sometimes slips away from us. The collective’s notable works include Bye-Bye Myself by Nicolas Fayol and Mehdi Baki, and Faire Fleurir by Nicolas Fayol.
