Karim Hapette was born in Rabat, Morocco, to a Moroccan mother and a French father. He left his homeland at age 19 to pursue his studies and did not return to Morocco until 2012 to shoot institutional films there. It was then that he discovered Morocco as he had never known it before. As a member of the Cinémouvement filmmakers’ collective, Karim learned a new way of working, where rigor, experimentation, and improvisation go hand in hand.
L’Bnat (2022) is his first feature-length documentary, followed by La Relève (2023), co-directed with Marin Morel.
