Hip-hop dance, having evolved from a niche artistic practice to a ‘mainstream’ aesthetic movement, embodies innovations rooted in unique ways of engaging with the audience, in values such as self-teaching and dialogue with other artistic forms, in the relationship between the individual and the collective, and in an inherent connection with reality. In France, as in many other countries, their rise has helped to diversify popular dance forms and revitalise their practices.
Over 15 hours, from 11.00 am to 2.00 am, the UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT/TWIST immersion explores the relationship each of us has with so-called ‘underground’ cultures, practices and artistic expressions. Solos, performances, concept battles, group dances, film screenings, graffiti sessions and other spontaneous surprises will form the many artistic expressions of this carte blanche, where the underground confronts the upperground.
