Sandrine Lescourant

Although Sandrine Lescourant—also known as Mufasa—has benefited from training in highly structured disciplines (classical dance, contemporary dance, and traditional African dance), she remains, at heart, self-taught. She has developed a style rooted in hip-hop values—a dance of resistance within the underground scene—while collaborating on stage with several choreographers from the contemporary dance scene (Amala Dianor, Thierry Surace, Pierre Rigal, Sébastien Lefrançois, Anthony Egéa).
Sandrine Lescourant founded Cie Kilaï in 2014 with the aim of forging connections, exploring the individual’s relationship to the world, and building bridges between the company’s artists and audiences. She then began developing a choreographic trilogy on the theme of human relationships. Her first work, Parasite (2016), was followed by Icône (2017) and then Acoustique (2019). In 2020, she presented RAW. She is currently working on her next piece, Anyway.
By drawing on her own experience and taking a broader view of contemporary society, Sandrine Lescourant creates bold works. She views dance as a bulwark against violence. Her projects, rooted in reality, are driven by the need to shift or challenge the audience’s perspective on their own sensitivity.
