Her choreographic work forms part of a sensitive yet political exploration, situated at the intersection of the intimate body and the social body. She is particularly renowned for her work in whacking, a dance form that originated in African-American queer clubs in the 1970s, which she champions as a language of expression, resistance and truth. Self-taught in hip hop dance, she furthered her training at the Académie Internationale de la Danse, where she studied jazz and contemporary dance, thereby enriching her vocabulary and refining her movement. This dual affiliation, straddling club culture and the choreographic scene, has forged an eclectic, expressive and deeply embodied style. Oumrata has collaborated with numerous choreographers with contrasting aesthetics, such as Tatiana Seguin, Marion Motin, Josepha Madoki and Benjamin Millepied, demonstrating her adaptability and her uniqueness as a performer. Since 2020, she has forged a strong bond with Mounia Nassangar, alongside whom she developed several projects before joining the production of STUCK, a seminal work in her career. Today, Oumrata is making her mark as a choreographer. She develops projects with a strong autobiographical and socio-political dimension, in which the body becomes a means of expression and emancipation. In 2026, she will present Maison Lou(p), a choreographic piece that tackles the taboo of incest head-on, blending dance, personal narrative and systemic questioning. In this work, whacking becomes a vehicle for urgent expression, a choreographic weapon to break family silences and challenge the patriarchal logic at work within our private lives.
